Sanat Tiwari, was born in the 50s’ and grew up sleeping to the Chhattisgarhi folk lullaby, chidiya aur shikari meaning bird and hunter, sung by his mother. Years later, he understood the essence and emotions of the lullaby and put it together.

Sanat maharaj, as we fondly call him, later joined the Department of Forest in 1976 as a Forester and retired in 2000 as Ranger of Surhi range of Achanakmar. Today, Surhi range is the core zone of Achanakmar Tiger Reserve in Chhattisgarh. He fondly remembers himself measuring the entire range on foot for years and takes pride in how his frontline contribution led to the creation of the tiger reserve.
